The plant database for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows that in 2020 there were about 2.1 billion plant species, or more than three plants for every man, woman and child.

“There is a big change in our plant communities,” said Mark Dannenberg, who manages the US plant database.
“We’re now in a place where plants are thriving in our gardens, on our trees and our shrubs.”

The most popular plants were a range of trees, and some plants have already been around for over 500 years.
“A few years ago, most plants in the United States were in the early stages of evolution, and they were not well suited to human consumption,” said Dannenburg.
“But the world has changed and now we have this explosion of plants that are grown in gardens and on trees.

The US government does not want to disclose the exact number of plants it has registered, but estimates suggest there are about 10,000 species that are not native to the US.

“By 2020, we had over 80,000, and by 2021 we had close to 100,000.”
The plant community is a complex process, with different species growing in different environments and from different parts of the world.
The main differences between different plants can be in their photosynthetic capabilities, which are linked to the types of light they require to grow.
“Many of the species that we are now seeing have evolved in the past five to 10 years,” Fries said.

One thing that is not changing is the way in which plants are cultivated.
“Plants are a very important part of our environment,” said Greg Burtch, who heads up the US Plant Registry and who is working with a group of plant breeders and biologists at the University of Arizona.
“They are our food, and so are trees and shrubs, and all of these plants can help us feed our families.”
It’s a process that can take decades to complete, but with the right training and care, plants are able to take on a much more important role in the country.
“In many ways, plants play a very significant role in our food supply,” said Burtk.
“And they’re also incredibly important in our health, because we rely on them to feed our animals and plants, and we need them for the environment.”
