NEW DELHI: The Indian government is on high alert after a spate of killings in the capital that killed five people and wounded nearly 150 others.
The number of killings has risen from four the day before, to seven on Wednesday, to more than a dozen in the past 24 hours.
The country’s national crime statistics agency says the number of crimes is expected to rise further after the holiday season.
The violence is concentrated in the city of Bengaluru and has killed more than 50 people and left more than 60 wounded.
The government says the killings are linked to gangsters, drug dealers, drug runners and others who have been operating in the country illegally for years.
